Of all the remaining heritage towns in the country, two truly stand out: Metro Vigan and Laoag. Metro Vigan, Ilocos Sur, the sole surviving 16th-century historic city, was declared a UNESCO World Heritage Site and one of the New Seven Wonders Cities. Laoag, Ilocos Norte, was a pre-Spanish trading hub and a Christian seat.
